George Washington was the commanding general of the Continental Army, the first President of the United States, and one of America's founding fathers. But did you know that George Washington preferred the life of a farmer over one of war and politics? Washington was a man open to new ideas, enthusiastic for new technology, and a great believer in innovation. These attributes were the building blocks that cultivated Mount Vernon, an 8000-acre plantation, into a thriving, self-contained community that helped inspire and invigorate eighteenth century America.

Save Our History: The Search for George Washington chronicles a contemporary effort to recover a more authentic view of our foremost statesman. On location at Washington's home at Mount Vernon, this program follows the work of a team of historians, anthropologists, scientists, artists and craftsmen assembled from four continents to accomplish one goal—to re-create an exact image of this legendary founding father.
